The CIM 2018 Convention took place between the 6th and 9th of May in Vancouver. The event had 3 full days of technical presentations divided in 12 different and innovative themes ranging from finance and management in the mining industry to diversity and inclusion. It was a great networking opportunity, and a chance to participate in a world-renowned trade show. This year's convention was focused on thinking differently about industry challenges, best practices and innovative insights.
Promine's technical services manager, Dr. Luis Montiel Petro was a speaker at the event. His presentation was on "Strategic Mine Planning Under Supply Material Uncertainty And Example From A Gold Mine". This was presented withing the "Mining Metamorphosis: Innovation that will redefine mining" technical stream.
This presentation showed the potential gains obtained by integrating and managing uncertainty of the different sources of material in the strategic mine planning optimization of a gold mining complex comprised of multiple pits, material types, stockpiles, external sources of material, blending requirements and processing destinations. The results of the study highlight the ability of risk-based mine planning optimization approaches to increase the upside potential while minimizing the downside risk of a mining operation.
Congratulations to Luis for his great presentation !
